NCAA is an acronym that stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. This organization is in charge of all the colleges and universities playing in 1st, second and third league sports divisions. The 2012 NCAA Bracket is in charge of facilitating many games like basket ball, football and hockey. The association hosts around 1282 schools all over Canada and the United States. Its head quarters are situated in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Large schools compete in division 1 while little institutions compete in these other second and third divisions. Scholarships are offered in 1st and second divisions to these students and athletes who excel in sports, but this is not typical in third division schools. This is a great concept as seeks to help needy children and create their talent at the exact same time to their personal advantage.

Colleges that provide football as a sport were divided also into divisions 1, two and three, with the 1st division being sub divided into the I An and the I AA in 1978. There was a brief introduction of the I AAA division for 1st division schools, but this was soon done away with and is no longer referred to officially by the association. I An and I AA were subsequently renamed the Football Bowl Subdivisions and the Football Championship Subdivisions respectively.

In the starting, the organization did not offer any women sports. There was an organization a lot like the NCAA that governed sports that women played. This was the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Ladies. This organization was nevertheless dissolved in 1982 and the members in the AIAW became component of the association of males.

In order to qualify for participation in college athletics in their fresh man year, any individual student must be high school graduates who have completed the minimal academic courses required of them and they must also have an above average grade point average score. This score is spread across 16 academic credits.

In 2011, a decision was passed in which a student may sign a letter of intent asserting his intention of entering and playing in the college football league following the 1st Wednesday of the month of February. In that same year, the association raised the academic specifications of all athletes competing in the post season competitions.

The 2012 NCAA Bracket has a number of rules which had been formulated to enforce the legislation of the association. The rules had been promulgated in 1952 after considerations by the association. Going against these rules may result in serious punishment for the athletes or member school.
